The Ban Metta Tham in the Province of Phayao started in 1996 the Community Based Services to Persons Living with HIV and AIDS, Their Families and Communities. The 3 main programmes are:
- Pastoral Care of the Sick and their
Families
- Organization and Animation of PHA Support Groups
- Child and Youth Development
- Pastoral Care of the Sick and their Families
- Home and hospital visits
- Monitoring of adherence of patients who are in ARV (Anti-Retro Viral) treatment
- Encouraging patients to join the PHA Support Group to facilitate medical and welfare services
- Provision by the PHA volunteers pre-test and post-test counseling services to HIV positive persons and counseling on pre-ARV treatment
- Provision of basic and food supplement to patients who are very sick
- Referrals to the Local Government Organization (Tambon Administration Organization or TAO) of the sub-district for any monetary or financial assistance.
- Psycho-spiritual support was given through prayer and advises as well as deepening and realization of the primary importance of the dignity of person.
