Community Based Services
to PHA, their Families and
Communities

The Ban Metta Tham in the Province of Phayao started in 1996 the Community Based Services to Persons Living with HIV and AIDS, Their Families and Communities.  The 3 main programmes are:

  1. Pastoral Care of the Sick and their cbr_aids_familiesFamilies
  2. Organization and Animation of PHA Support Groups
  3. Child and Youth Development
  • Activities
  1. Pastoral Care of the Sick and their Families
    • Home and hospital visits
    • Monitoring of adherence of patients who are in ARV (Anti-Retro Viral) treatment
    • Encouraging patients to join the PHA Support Group to facilitate medical and welfare services
    • Provision by the PHA volunteers pre-test and post-test counseling services to HIV positive persons and counseling on pre-ARV treatment
    • Provision of basic and food supplement to patients who are very sick
    • Referrals to the Local Government Organization (Tambon Administration Organization or TAO) of the sub-district for any monetary or financial assistance.
    • Psycho-spiritual support was given through prayer and advises as well as deepening and realization of the primary importance of the dignity of person.
  2. Organization and Animation of PHA Support Groups
    • Group Saving Scheme
    • Collective responsibility on Child and Youth Development Program
    • Continued education for life. Value Formation.
    • Advocacy
  3. Child and Youth Development
    • Educational Assistance. 
    • Social-cultural and religious Activities
    • Participation of children and youth in education on AIDS:
    • Children in ARV Therapy. Follow-up home visits and monitoring.
  4. Capacity Building of personnel and PHA Group Leaders and Volunteers
  5. Inter-Faith Activities
  6. Apostolic Exposure/Study Tours and Visits at Ban Metta Tham
