At present, there are 18 residents
at St. Joseph’s Home:

• 4 who are rehabilitated  Hansenites
• 1  with dementia
• 1 mentally retarded
• 4 boarders
• 8 who are physically and mentally normal

The building has been upgraded to provide better facilities, a comfortable home for the residents and a wide range of services to both Hansenites and other elderly citizens within the province of Khon Kaen.

Activities:

• Medical and nursing care
• Meaningful social and occupational activities
• Regular counseling
• Daily exercises/physical therapy
• Weekly –scripture sharing/sharing of faith and experiences

St. Joseph’s Home also reaches out to the elderly within the neighboring areas by providing  Day Care Services for the Elderly.   Thirteen (13) elderly people, who are rehabilitated Hansenites, would regularly join the activities in St. Joseph’s Home during the day.

The following are the occupational therapy activities for the elderly at St. Joseph’s Home and for the Day Care Services for the Elderly:

• Mushroom cultures
• Catfish raising
• Frog raising
• Backyard organic gardening
• Herbal plants gardening
• Edible crickets raising

These projects are intended as the pilot base for the elderly Community Based Program.

COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY

There are 125 beneficiaries provided with monthly supplemental food and hygiene pack in 15 villages.  Most of them are rehabilitated Hansenites and poor villagers.

Activities:

• Intensive home visits and counseling of the elderly people at the villages
• Hospital referrals
• Regular medical check-up from the local Health Centers
• On-Going Formation:
  • Seminars organized and conducted by the staff from the Health Center on the Value of exercise and health care, food balanced diet, etc
  • How to grow old gracefully
  • Group occupational therapy activities
