I. NONSOMBOON LEPROSARIUM DAY CARE CENTER

The Nonsomboon Leprosarium Day Care
Center Project has been going on for the past 30 years since the Daughters of Charity started it.  The project continues its services giving assistance to children and grandchildren of Hansenites in the Nonsomboon Leprosarium.  For the school year 2005 to 2006 there are 110 children, from Nursery to Kinder 3, who benefited with the daily activities provided by the Center

Activities:

• Preparatory education for small children ages 2 to 6 years old
• Supplementary food feeding
• Psycho-Social- Cultural and community activities
• Meeting with parents
• Home visitation
• Coordination with local government offices

At the end of the school year 37 finished their preparatory education and are ready to study for
Grade 1.

To celebrate the 30th years Anniversary of the Day Care Center, an alumni homecoming was organized to raise funds for the reconstruction of the old dining hall building and the roofing for the entrance passage of the Center.  It was a day of remembering the past and expressing a sense of gratitude for the continuous financial support of the Wereldkinderen Agency and for the continuous care and attention given by the Sisters, Teachers and staff of the Center for the past years and the years to come.

II. EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

To support the children and grandchildren of Hansenites at the Nonsomboon Leprosarium, the Sisters provided funds to help them in their continuing education.  At present, 59 children and youth are being assisted ranging from elementary level up to vocational training courses.  This school year 2005-2006, 21 students finished their elementary level and 8 at the secondary level.
